For-Profit Companies Seek, and Get, Medicare ‘Wellness’ $$ Life Line service draws special ire from physicians

“For-Profit Companies Seek, and Get, Medicare ‘Wellness’ $$”–is an article published originally in 2015, by MEDPAGE TODAY.  Companies such as Life Line Services will contact patients and ask them if they would like to “take charge of their health” by undergoing expensive screenings that, for the most part, can be covered by your insurance or can be provided free of charge through community healthcare systems, however, they charge patients hefty fees.   Once they have the patient in their facility, often a community firehouse, they will additionally perform the Annual Medicare Wellness exam, for which they bill Medicare.  This annual exam is recommended by Medicare to identify issues before they become problematic and provide resources and help to our Medicare population.   Life Line Services will not follow up with the patient, but refers them back to their PCP if any abnormalities are identified . No one knows your health status better than your Primary Care Physicians.

Cal Arundel Family Medicine provides the Medicare Annual Wellness visit every Friday.  This visit is free of charge to all Medicare patients, will not be subject to deductibles or co-insurance billing. MaryJo and Jan have been contacting our Medicare patients and setting up their appointments for a few weeks now.    They will mail out a questionnaire prior to your appointment, to fill out and bring with you to your “AWV” appointment.  If you have not been contacted by US, please call our office to schedule your Annual Wellness Visit today!  We look forward to seeing you soon! –Dr. Stan and Staff
